The sea has always exerted a magical attraction on people. Its infinite expanse, fascinating waves, and the enormous variety of life make it a unique place of discovery and relaxation. But before diving into the salty water, it is important to understand some basic information about the sea and its characteristics in order to truly have a safe and enjoyable time there.
One of the most fascinating features of the sea is undoubtedly its tides. These periodic fluctuations in water level are the result of the gravitational pull of the moon and the sun on the Earth. Tides determine the regular alternation between high and low tide, with the water sometimes rising and then receding. It is important to know that the strength and height of the tides can vary depending on the geographical location and local conditions. Strong currents can occur on some coasts, while gentle and slow tides may be observed in other places.
For activities in the sea, it is essential to pay attention to the tide tables and understand the local conditions. This is necessary to choose the appropriate time of day for your plans. You must be particularly cautious during spring tides, which occur during the full moon. Tides can result in higher water levels and particularly strong currents.
Speaking of currents! Be aware that they can suddenly occur and possess incredible force. If you get caught in a current, it is essential to remain calm and not attempt to swim against it. Instead, swim parallel to the shore to escape the current. Additional buoyancy, as provided by products like Restube, can be crucial in such a situation!

Flora and Fauna

Algae and seagrass meadows contribute to oxygen production and serve as a food source for many marine animals. You should also refrain from collecting shells or other marine animals to avoid disrupting the ecological balance. When using sunscreen, make sure it is environmentally friendly to prevent damage to coral reefs. Protect your legs and upper body from the sun with suitable clothing.
Caution: Some waters harbor sea urchins, jellyfish, or other poisonous marine creatures, whose touch can be extremely uncomfortable or even dangerous. Inform yourself about potential dangers before entering the water!

Flags and Their Meanings
For safety at beaches and in the sea, lifeguards ensure the monitoring of bathing conditions in the water, warning of potential dangers, and providing quick assistance in emergencies. By hoisting flags at guarded beaches, they inform water sports enthusiasts and bathers about the prevailing conditions. Know the meanings of the different flags to adjust your behavior accordingly!
A red flag signals that swimming in the sea is not safe due to hazardous conditions such as strong waves, currents, or other risks.
A yellow flag warns of potential hazards such as strong currents or rough water but does not necessarily indicate a ban on swimming.
A green flag indicates that the conditions at the beach are considered safe and swimming is allowed.
A Blue Flag is a quality mark from the field of sustainable tourism but says nothing about the conditions in the water.
Tip: For your own safety, always choose a supervised beach! Lifeguards are very familiar with local conditions and can also answer any questions you may have.
Saltwater for Health
Saltwater offers a whole range of health benefits! Firstly, the water in the sea is rich in minerals such as magnesium, calcium, and potassium, which can help cleanse and renew the skin. Additionally, saltwater has mild disinfectant properties and can aid in the healing of minor skin injuries. Inhaling salty air can also help to loosen mucus in the respiratory tract. People with respiratory conditions such as asthma or bronchitis often experience relief of symptoms when they are by the sea.
Be careful when swimming in the sea! Compared to swimming in lakes, it often requires higher physical fitness. Dealing with waves and currents demands more endurance than in a calm lake. Know your limits, do not overestimate yourself, and always have additional buoyancy with you!
