When the summer sun rises over the Greifswalder Bodden and the first swimmers start warming up on the beach of Lauterbach, it can only mean one thing: It’s time for Vilmschwimmen – a true highlight for water sports enthusiasts, nature lovers, and adventurous spirits from all over Germany. The approximately 2.5-kilometer route from the island of Vilm to the mainland is not only physically demanding, but also passes through a protected natural paradise that is usually off-limit.
