Looks great, have the both ordered as a reserve and can therefore say neither negative nor positive about it right now. I just hope that they are good when I need them then.

Packaging

I love the product itself. But I don't understand that 2 replacement cartridges of CO2 are being shipped in a carton, that would suit 20 Restubes itself and is filled with bubble foil - why?!
And at the same time running a campaign to remove plastic from the ocean.... A normal patted enveloped would be more than sufficient to ship small products like this.

We are already in discussion with our logistics company to use a fitting carton size instead of heavily oversized cartons for a small product. A cartridge should be definitely shipped in a small envelope.

Tested first cartridge

I bought 4 replacement cartridges with my original order as I didn’t want to be hesitant to deploy it and I wanted my friends to see it in action. I have some medical issues and rely on swim mates to keep an eye on me when we swim in open water, especially in the cold ocean off Vancouver Island. I wanted to show them how they could help me if a situation arose when I could use the extra flotation provided by my Restube Active. I used the cartridge that came with the Restube to demonstrate how to deploy it and it worked as advertised. The tube was immediately inflated to provide good buoyancy and quickly became fully inflated. Replacing the cartridge was simple - no problems with cross-threading.

Der Restube extreme ist mein ständiger Begleiter beim Watfoschen mit der Fliege im Fluss und an der Küste. Ernsthaft gebraucht habe ich ihn zum Glück noch nicht. Dank der Ersatzpatronen konnten wir den Tune aber schon am Badesee zusammen mit den Kindern testen. Beide (8 & 5 Jahre alt) kommen sehr gut mit dem Restube zurecht und werden zum nächsten Sommer einen eigenen bekommen!

How many times can a CO2 cartridge be used?

A CO2 cartridge can be used to trigger the Safety Buoy once. Afterwards, the empty CO2 cartridge must be removed, and a new original RESTUBE CO2 cartridge must be inserted.

You can also blow up the Safety Buoy manually using the mouth valve. This is a practical option if you are using the Safety Buoy as a swim buoy, or for snorkeling.

How do I change the CO2 cartridges?

How to get the safety buoy ready for use again is explained in detail in the instructions as well as printed on the buoy and bag. Attention: RESTUBE only guarantees its functionality when used with the original RESTUBE CO2 cartridges.

First any contamination (e.g. sand) must be removed from the Safety Buoy, the trigger and the CO2 cartridge. Then the empty CO2 cartridge is unscrewed from the trigger and disposed of in the recycling center. Then fold in the release lever. Check the new CO2 cartridge for damage before screwing it in and make sure that the puncture cap is closed. Then screw it firmly into the release mechanism.

Can I take RESTUBE Safety Buoy on the plane?

Yes, the Safety Buoy may be taken on a plane. Depending on the version, original RESTUBE CO2 cartridges contain 16g or 10.9g CO2 and are under pressure. They are considered a hazardous material in air transport. However, according to the IATA and LBA, passengers may take up to two CO2 cartridges with them in combination with the Safety Buoy. Register RESTUBE CO2 cartridges promptly before your trip begins by phone with the airline and carry a written confirmation from the airline (email) and the green flyer during your trip. Can I use other cartridges such as the bicycle pump cartridges as replacements?

No. Only our RESTUBE cartridges are checked for exactly 10.9g or 16g filling quantity and are compatible with the trigger and have a special alloy for salt water resistance. If other cartridges are used, the Safety Buoy cannot be guaranteed to function properly.

Do I need a green safety clip with the replacement cartridges?

The green clip was used on the older Restube versions to make it visible that a new CO2 cartridge had been screwed in. When the Restube was triggered, the clip fell off and into the water, revealing a red spot. The clip only had an indicative character and did not have a technical function. The absence therefore does not affect the function of your Restube. If you have an older Restube model and do not want to do without the clip, we can send you one. For this we need your address.

The new Restube models beach, active & extreme (lifeguard from 2022) have a new, modern display system, which works completely without a clip that drops into the water. We are working hard on Restube lifeguard, automatic and pfd by Restube to be able to offer these products without a clip. The perfect function is important to us, the development with all the necessary long-term tests can still take over a year here.
